Mel Gibson and the Great Siege of Malta 1565
MedSeas signature pilgrimage is our annual journey to Malta during the week set aside to remember the Knights of St. John (Sovereign Military Order of Malta) and their heroic stand in the defense of Christendom in 1565. Mel Gibson, no stranger to filming in Malta, has decided to bring the Great Siege of Malta 1565 to the public through a limited TV series. During this siege, 500 knights and 5,500
(Includes 2,500 solders, 3.000 Maltese citizens and others) defended the island against a massive Ottoman invasion force of over 40,000 men and ships.
Gibson is quoted: “I’m also working on a about the Siege of Malta, which is an incredible story, and there’s only one place to film that, I mean, in Malta.”
Mel Gibson, renowned for his powerful storytelling and historical epics, brings his unique vision to the screen once again. Known for acclaimed films such as ‘Braveheart’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ Gibson’s dedication to authenticity and compelling narratives promises to bring the Great Siege of Malta to life in a way never seen before.
We hope this project moves forward, as the defense of Malta saved Europe.

We return to Malta this September 3 -10, a week-long celebration of Our Lady of Victories in 2025.
