DAY 1

Arrival in Santorini

Walking Tour of Fira & Archaeological Museum: Fira, the picturesque capital town of the island has been built on the rim of caldera wall. Guests will have time to walk around the cobbled streets, admire the traditional Cycladic architecture and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the volcano, the caldera and the sea. The Historical and Cultural Archaeological Museum of Santorini in Fira contains artifacts from excavations on the island. Noteworthy are a fine collection of geometric red and black vases from the fifth century BC Inscriptions are plentiful among the displays in the museum and a certain amount of Minoan ware is also on exhibit. The museum also hosts impressive frescoes as well as sculptures of the Hellenistic period, Byzantine works of art and even some remains of prehistoric times. (D)

DAY 2

Tour of Santorini including Akrotiri, Wine Museum and Tasting and visit to Oia

The Akrotiri archaeological site, located in the southwest part of the island is one of the most important sites of the Mediterranean. The ruins of the ancient city were found around the year 1860, however excavations only began in 1967. Only the southern part of the city (200,000 square meters) has been unearthed, including palaces, streets, squares and remains of walls 8 meters high, all buried since 1600 BC under volcanic ash. This is an amazing site.

The Koutosyannopoulos Wine Museum is unique in that it is built 8 meters below the ground and is 300 meters long, shaped like a labyrinth and shows the history of the wine and the life of the wine producers in Santorini from 1660 – 1970. In 1970, the first electronic equipment arrived on the island which helped the production, but most importantly the quality of the wine produced. Today, 4 generations later, the winery continues to operate, armed with the latest in modern technology and the vast knowledge of Santorini vines and the strength of the local cultivators, wine of exceptional quality is produced. At the end of the tour, a tasting of 4 different wines is enjoyed.

Oia is a traditional settlement in the north of Santorini. The beauty of Oia is unsurpassed. Small white house’s tier the hillside interspersed by splashes of rich okra, deep fuchsia, cobalt blue, oyster pink and earthy red. Smooth winding paths interconnect, interrupted now and then by a small church, and at every corner there is something new to discover. Oia is one of the most photographed places in Greece, if not the world. It has inspired artists, poets and every visitor who visits Santorini. Oia is best known for breath-taking sunsets; if truth be told, sunrise in Oia is also amazing. (B)

DAY 3

Private Day Cruise in the Caldera with lunch

We will board our private vessel in the morning at the picturesque old port of Fira and set sail for a cruise in the Caldera bay. We will sail towards the small port of Nea Kameni where we will have the chance to disembark and explore the rim of the volcanic crater from where most of the volcanic layers are visible on the impressive steep inner walls of the caldera. Leaving the volcano, our next destination is the “Hot Springs” and their thermal sulfurous waters, where you can let yourself indulge in the natural-warm and soothing sea. During the remainder of our voyage, we will sail towards Thirassia, the second largest of the islands forming the caldera, where we will dock giving you the opportunity to escape into its crystal clear and refreshing blue waters. In the meantime the crew prepares a delicious traditional BBQ buffet and you’ll enjoy the renowned white local wine. Next we depart for the northern tip of Santorini and the town of Oia with its two small ports Ammoudi and Armeni. From our boat we have a unique vantage point for viewing and photographing the lovely traditional settlement of Oia. Here you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We finish our day with a wonderful dinner at Volcano Blue. (B,L,D)
